OCR Developers for Natural History

OCR are currently seeking people who may be interested in becoming Developers for a new Natural History qualification. We have submitted a proposal to the Department for Education (DfE) for a new GCSE in Natural History.  Until we know whether the DfE agree to our proposal, we are not able to start developing this GCSE.  In the meantime, we would like to invite expressions of interest for developer roles, in the hope that our proposal is accepted.

 

This would be an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of an entirely new qualification.

Essential criteria:

  • Have a qualification level of degree or above in Natural History, Environmental Studies, Geography, Science, or similar. 
  • Able to work under pressurised time constraints
  • Skilled at managing multiple commitments at the same time
  • Able to produce material to a specified brief
  • Meticulous, paying close attention to detail
  • Able to give and receive feedback in order to develop a high-quality product
  • A good communicator and collaborator
  • Able to use IT systems and applications
  • If you are interested in the developer of sample assessment material role you must have assessment experience and be familiar with working with assessment objectives.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of outdoor learning/fieldwork
  • Teaching experience
  • Marking experience
  • For sample assessment material developers, experience of writing question papers and mark schemes 

 

As a developer you:

  • participate in the development process of the qualification which will take place over a number of months
  • will use your subject knowledge to prepare and submit draft material as requested
  • redraft material incorporating feedback and revisions as required
  • review and evaluate various drafts of material under development, providing detailed feedback for improvement as requested
  • prepare for and participate in any related meetings/activities
  • complete required supporting documentation at all stages
  • will be expected to undertake relevant training as required

 

As a developer of specification content you:

  • create content that forms the basis of all future assessments and meets the Subject Level Content set out by the Department for Education
  • will need to write content that can be taught in 120-140 guided learning hours (this is for the full specification)

 

As a developer of sample assessment material (SAMs) you: 

  • write accessible question papers and mark schemes based on the specification content that has been developed
  • will need to ensure that the question papers and mark schemes meet the Subject Level Conditions and Requirements set out by Ofqual
  • undertake thorough reviews of assessment materials
  • work through assessment materials as if you were the candidate to ensure all questions and tasks can be completed and are accessible
  • review the mark scheme and assessment criteria to ensure that all anticipated responses included can be elicited from the assessment material as requested
