Cambridge English Item Writer for the IELTS test

We welcome your application to become a Cambridge English Item Writer for the IELTS test

Materials for the IELTS test are produced by teams of specialist Item Writers. There are currently vacancies for writers on our IELTS Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking teams based in Australia.

Applicants must be located in Australia, preferably in the Sydney or Brisbane areas

Requirements are that applicants:

• are educated to first degree level or equivalent*
• have a recognised ESL teaching qualification* 
• have substantial recent experience of preparing test takers for IELTS and/or experience of IELTS examining
• are based in Australia, preferably in Sydney or Brisbane

*An applicant may be exempt either from the formal teaching qualification or from the first degree/equivalent requirement (but not both) if they can provide evidence of considerable relevant teaching experience (i.e. ideally 3000 hours or more) supported by a positive reference.

Successful applicants will have:

• an interest in educational assessment
• experience of writing materials for the ESL classroom, and preferably for ESL tests
• excellent attention to detail
• the ability to carry out administrative tasks efficiently and punctually
• the ability to work under pressure
• availability/flexibility to take on item writing work in addition to current work
• the ability to collaborate well with others
• the ability to give and receive constructive criticism
• the ability to reflect on and evaluate own work
• good IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Teams for remote meetings
